Videoconference #1
Date: November 30, 2010, 8:00AM EST

The first Global Impact Apprentice Challenge videoconference was held on Tuesday, November 30, 2010. The six participating schools prepared a 7-minute presentation that introduced all GIA participants to their school and the top three environmental issues of concern in their country. At the conclusion of the presentations, the schools were paired with a partner school to form three teams. The three teams, each team comprised of one American high school and one Middle Eastern or North African high school were announced along with the judges scores for their presentations.

Preparing for Videoconference #1
What to Expect

Congratulations on being selected to represent your school and your country in the inaugural GIA Challenge! During the first videoconference, you will meet the GIA judges and moderators and will be introduced to your teammates from abroad. The moderators will share with your team the environmental issue on which you will focus throughout the year. Based upon your school’s indicated top three environmental issues, you will be paired with a school from overseas that expresses similar environmental concerns for their community. As a team you will work together to research, create awareness and take action on this environmental issue of mutual concern.

Challenge #1

Your first challenge is to prepare a seven (7) minute presentation to introduce all GIA participants to your school and your top three environmental issues of concern. Please address the questions below to better explain why the discussed environmental issues are particularly releveant to your country and community:

In addition, please respond to the following question:

What do you believe that one individual can do to make a difference in the environmental sustainability of their community?

You may be creative in your presentation, using pictures, video and/or Powerpoint to further illustrate your points. Please refer to the Videoconference #1 worksheet to aid your team in brainstorming and organization.

*Please refer to the Global Impact Apprentice Workbook for further details.

Please submit the Videoconference #1 worksheet along with an outline of your 7-minute presentation to Empower Peace by Thursday, November 18th.
